Allison Shaftel graduated with a BFA in fashion design from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. She moved to Los Angeles after graduating and spent a year working in costume design with notable designers such as Emmy-Award winner Jacqueline Saint Anne. In 2018 she relocated to Brooklyn, where she currently resides. She has worked alongside several designers and brands in couture design work, as well as assisting garment production for NYFW runways— most notably, the fun-loving sequined brand Libertine & rising megastar Christian Cowan. She currently works in womenswear fashion design.
Most of Allison’s artwork is fashion or costume based, but she also enjoys drawing as well. Both her illustration and design work are usually inspired by her love of history, which she was introduced to at a young age growing up immersed in her mother’s career as an antique collector & dealer. She now has an extensive personal collection of vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories from the 1920s-1970s. She enjoys using her understanding of the history of fashion and style for creating unique and personalized garments that reference both the past and present.
She has been featured in several online and print publications, including Women’s Wear Daily, Bullet Magazine, and Redeye Chicago.
